INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Submission guidelines for Open Insight:

1. Open Insight is an specialized journal on Philosophy aimed at researchers, professors and students of philosophy. Open Insight publishes articles, discussions, replies to other articles, interviews and book reviews in English and Spanish.

2. Thematically, Open Insight is not restricted to any Philosophy area, as long as the submitted manuscripts comply with the rigor and seriousness expected from a scientific philosophical publication. However, it wants to promote research in the diverse fields and philosophical problems of contemporary philosophy, but it does not excludes contributions dedicated to ancient or medieval philosophy or any other particular aspect of the history of philosophy.

3. Beyond any special exception considered by the editors, all contributions must be original and unpublished and they cannot be in the evaluation process of any other journal.

Structure and quotation format

4. The documents should be sent in Pages (.pages), Rich Text Format (.rtf ) or Word (.doc; .docx) to the following address: openinsight@cisav.org. PDF's, ODT's and physical documents will not be accepted.

5. The manuscript must include a clearly stated title, in both English and Spanish, an abstract of less than 100 words and 5 keywords. Abstract and keywords are not required for interviews and book reviews.

6. Articles, replies to other articles and interviews will have a length of up to 9,000 words, without counting abstract and references.

7. Book reviews will have a maximum length of up to 3500 words. Reviews of books older than 5 years will be not admitted and they must contain the complete reference of the book that is being reviewed (author, title, publisher, city, year, pages, translator –if the case–, edition). We will receive reviews of new editions of previously published books, as long as they represent a clear ad important modification in terms of editorial or translation work.

8. Quotations will be marked with double quotes, with the exception of quotations longer than three lines. In that case, the quotation will be situated in a separate paragraph, indented and without quotes.

9. With exception of classical authors, for whom the conventional system must be used –e.g. Diels-Kranz for Presocratics; Bekker for Aristotle; Addam-Tannery for Descartes–, there will be used the APA system for quotation, bracketing the last name of the author, year of the publication and page.

10. Footnotes will be reserved for author commentaries only. If the author includes a quotation in the footnote, it will be referred in the same way as it is used in the body of the text: (Author, year: page)

11. In case the author includes text in Greek, Hebrew or any other language that uses nonoccidental characters, it must be sent the font archive and a PDF version of the article, for avoiding transcription errors. 273 12. References should be listed at the end, alphabetically ordered by author and year. For example:

On evaluation and refereeing

13. Evaluation will be conducted by two anonymous referees. At least one of them will be external to the Centre for Advanced Social Research and the Editorial board of Open Insight, but usually that will be the case of both. Information about the identity of the authors and the referees will be strictly confidential.

14. Refereeing time will be about 4 or 5 months and the evaluation will be sent to the author by e-mail, with the comments that the referees and the editors consider relevant.

15. In the case of the articles and discussions, the evaluation criteria will be based on the importance of the topic, its pertinence for the journal, the quality on argumentation, a good use of the bibliographical resources, the clarity on the hypothesis, logic and order in the exposition and the adequacy of the language according to the stated problem.

16. Evaluation results can be: a) Accepted without any modification, b) Accepted, but conditioned to certain modifications on style and/or format, c) Accepted, but conditioned to substantial corrections on the contribution or d) Not accepted. In the case that the contribution were not accepted, the author can make the corrections and modifications according to the evaluation and submit it again for a new evaluation process. In the case that there is a significant difference between the evaluations of the two referees, the contribution will be sent to a third one. In every case, however, the last decision about the publication of a contribution depends on the editors.

17. When the submission is accepted, the author will be asked to send his/her institutional information: full name, name of the institution, postal address, e-mail (institutional e-mail address is preferred), and a brief curriculum vitae. The author will be notified in which issue will the contribution appear.

18. Publication of a text supposes that the author's copyright is passed on to the editorial institution of the journal.
