Instructions for the preparation of manuscripts

Instructions for the preparation of manuscripts

Please, send a letter of presentation of your paper containing the full postal address of the author for correspondence, including phone, fax and e-mail.

It will be very helpful for us include the electronic address of at least three possible reviewers of your paper.

Submit manuscripts for revision in the standard format as indicated below. A fee of $100 U.S. dollars per accepted paper will be charged to the authors. After the acceptance of the contributions SyV will take care of the final format. It is not necessary that authors prepare a camera ready format.

Preparation of Manuscripts

It is recommended to keep the length of articles between 3 to 5 printed pages in the final format. This gives a word count between 2700 and 4500. Each figure and table takes a space similar to 250 words. 16 pages of double spaced text (including figures, tables, references, abstract, figure captions, etc.) will correspond to 4 printed pages.

Manuscripts should be typed throughout with double-line spacing and 2 cm margins on numbered pages. Use a 12 point Times New Roman font. Contributions are accepted on the understanding that the authors have obtained the necessary authority for publication. Submission of an article implies that no copyright will be infringed. Upon acceptance of an article, the authors will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the publisher.

Languages.

Contributions can be written in Spanish, Portuguese or English. If the article is not written in English it must include the abstract translated to this language. Send the electronic file of your contribution, one copy of the manuscript including figures, tables and references.

Title page

Papers should include a concise but informative title followed by the name(s) of the author(s) and by the name and address of the laboratory where the work was carried out. The name and complete address of the person to whom proofs are to be sent must be given including e-mail, telephone and fax numbers. Acronyms are not allowed in the title.

Abstract.

An abstract should be included , giving a brief and factual account of the contents and conclusions of the paper as well as an indication of any new information presented and its relevance. The abstract must be self-contained, and reference to formulae, equations or references that appear in the text is not permissible. All papers shall include an abstract in English. The abstract is limited to around 100 words.

Keywords.

Please supply at least three classification codes PACS (http://www.aip.org/pacs/), and up to six keywords of your own choice that describe the content of your article in more detail.

References.

The references are included at the end of the article, and numbered in the order of their appearance in the paper. Numerals are given in square brackets []. In the list of references the names and initials of all authors must be included, and periodicals [1], books [2] and multi-authors books [3] should be cited in accordance with the following examples:

Each reference should be complete, thus the use of ibid., idem, et al., etc. is not permitted. References to unpublished or not readily accessible reports should be avoided.

Symbols, Formulae and Equations.

Symbols, formulae and equations must be consistent with standard usage. Numerals referring to equations shall be enclosed in parentheses.

Tables.

Tables are typed in double-line spacing on separate sheets and provided with a suitable heading and referred in the text using Arabic numerals. Each table must include a title explaining the general meaning of the data.

Illustrations.

Figures are numbered in the same order that they appear in the text and their captions listed together at the end of the manuscript. All figures must be clearly referred in the text. Characters in illustrations must use fonts large enough to be legible after reduction in the printed anuscript. It is recommendable to verify this by reducing the figures to a width of 8.5 cm. Preparation of figures

Line figures.

Figures in the first version of the manuscript should be 1.5-3 times larger than the final size of the figures. Figures will be preferably reduced to a single column width (8.5 cm, in the final format) unless their complexity, large width-to-height ratio or need to display special detail makes a larger format necessary. The font size used on a figure should be chosen so that after reduction, the height of numbers and (capital) letters falls within the range 1.2-2.4 mm. Half-tone plates. Use half-tone plates only if strictly necessary. An extra charge can apply to those papers including them. The photographs should have a somewhat greater contrast than is desired in the printed figure.

Color plates. Color illustrations are not acceptable..
