Abstract
RENDON ROJAS, Liliana; MEJIA REYES, Pablo and SALGADO VEGA, María del Carmen. Especialización y crecimiento manufacturero en dos regiones del Estado de México: un análisis comparativo. Econ: teor. práct [online]. 2013, n.38, pp.111-148. ISSN 2448-7481.
This paper analyzes the role of productive specialization to explain the difference in the growth rates of manufacturing production in two regions of the Estado de México, México, namely Toluca-Lerma and Valle de México, during the period 1970-2008. The specialization pattern is defined by computing specialization indexes and by applying the shift-share technique, whilst the productive activities in which those areas are specialized are classified according to their technological level on the basis of the classification proposed by Pavitt (1984). Results suggest that the greater pace of growth in the region Toluca-Lerma may be explained, in part, by its higher degree of specialization and the higher technological level of its most dynamic sectors; something opposite occurs in the Valle de México region.
