Abstract
MENDOZA GONZALEZ, Miguel Ángel. Remittances in the Context of Private Consumption Determinants in Mexico, 1995-2019. Econ: teor. práct [online]. 2021, n.55, pp.87-108. Epub Oct 25, 2021. ISSN 2448-7481. https://doi.org/10.24275/etypuam/ne/552021/mendoza.
Using both Keynesian and post-Keynesian approaches, this research analyzes the importance of remittances in explaining the growing trends of private consumption, as well as durable, semi-durable and non-durable domestic and imported goods and services in Mexico in the period 1995-2019. The methodology used to estimate the effects of remittances on the explanation of the different consumer goods and services was cointegration without FMOLS endogeneity bias. To confirm its relevance in the post-Keynesian context, an econometric analysis exercise was constructed with alternative explanatory control variables to income. The results confirm that remittances, current income and the real exchange rate are the greatest determinants to explain the behavior of goods, by durability, and services in Mexico.
