Abstract

THAYER C., Luis Eduardo; CORDOVA R., María Gabriela  and  AVALOS B., Betania. The limits of social recognition: Latin American migrants in Santiago's Metropolitan Area. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2013, vol.21, n.42, pp.163-191. ISSN 0188-7653.

The arrival of immigrants from Latin America to the Metropolitan Region over the past 15 years has introduced deep social changes. The absence of a migration policy geared towards the recognition of migrants as social subjects has left the incorporation process to the fate of the immigrants' own strategies. Our research seeks to show the disposition of native people to engage in a recognition relationship with Latin American immigrants.

Keywords : immigration; recognition; discrimination; incorporation; society; public space.
