Abstract

ARDUINI, Guilherme  and  WOHNRATH, Vinicius. Political incursion of the Churches in democratic Brazilian Constituents Assemblies. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.61, 00002.  Epub June 10, 2024. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3161-002-2023.

The article examines the political incursion of religious agents in the production of dynamics in the Brazilian Constitutions of 1934 and 1988. Based on institutional publications and Congress documents, a methodological drawing on institutional publications and National Congress documents, we examine the socio-professional properties of the agents, as well as the discourses and positions assumed by Catholic and, more recently, Evangelical groups, in public discussions on the legal organization of private life. The results contribute to debates on constitutional cultures and the participation of religious actors in political struggles in the Latin American reality.

Keywords : Constitution; Constituent Assembly; rights; secular state; Catholic Church.
