Abstract

ALZUETA-GALAR, Igor. Hegemony and crisis of authority in Chile: Political remnants of the model in the face of the October 2019 outbreak. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.62, 007.  Epub May 31, 2024. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3162-007-2023.

The objective of this article is to construct a diagnosis of the political project of Chile’s elite through the prism of Antonio Gramsci’s (1891-1937) theory of hegemony. This approach allows us to interpret the guidelines of the Chilean state and society from the transition to 18 October 2019. The foundations of the hegemonic project prior to the social outbreak, which had been reconstructed from the remnants of the fall of the dictatorship, are facing a crisis of authority that opens a new and still developing political time. The article provides a reading from Gramscian political theory in order to understand which elements of this project are no longer credible in Chilean society.

Keywords : hegemony; Chile; Gramsci; historical bloc; crisis of legitimacy; social outbreak.
