Abstract

VAZQUEZ MANTECON, Álvaro. Cine y propaganda durante el cardenismoFilm and Propaganda in Cárdenas' Mexico. Hist. graf [online]. 2012, n.39, pp.87-101. ISSN 1405-0927.

By examining government-sponsored propaganda films of the 1930s, this paper explores the development of a relationship between post-revolutionary governments and mass media/broadcast media. Two distinct film productions are explored closely: films produced during the governorship of Tomás Garrido Canabal in Tabasco, and documentaries produced by the federal Departamento de Prensa y Publicidad (DAPP). A comparison with similar propaganda films from abroad during the same period exposes a common visual repertoire and a common language employed to describe the stages of development among countries undergoing national consolidation. The conclusion discusses further the relationship between the government and mass media.

Keywords : propaganda; cardenismo; mass media.
