Abstract

PASTOR, Marialba. Sins of the Flesh in the controversies about the New World. Hist. graf [online]. 2013, n.40, pp.165-192. ISSN 1405-0927.

Based on the testimonies of the first polemics about the New World, this article delves into what the sins of the flesh attributed to the American aborigines meant to Spanish-Christian morals, in order to contribute to a better understanding of the written documents of the first colonizers, and hence, to their mentality and interpretation of the reality.

Keywords : sins of the flesh; Spanish theology; Christian sexuality; conversion.
