Abstract

FERNANDEZ CASTRO, Roberto. Edmundo O’Gorman and the phenomenological foundation of the science of history in Crisis y porvenir. Hist. graf [online]. 2016, n.47, pp.217-250. ISSN 1405-0927.

Next to the emphasis stressed in his study of historiography as a genre or as scientific speech, Edmundo O’Gorman’s work, and especially his book of 1947, Crisis y porvenir de la ciencia histórica, offers the possibility of remembering the relevance Philosophy of History had as integral part of historical task to explain, what it does and what sense can be attributed to the writing of history. This way, the present article tries to show how O’Gorman’s aim of carrying out a philosophical foundation to explain the sense of historical knowledge rests on phenomenological reflection, based on the work both of Martin Heidegger and Edmund Husserl.

Keywords : historiography; phenomenology; philosophy of history; historicity.
