Abstract

LEON MEZA, C. René de  and  SANTOS, Luis Gerardo. Bartolome Rodriguez Palma, a Portuguese Cleric Miner in the New Galicia, 1676-1698. Hist. graf [online]. 2019, n.52, pp.159-186. ISSN 1405-0927.

The following article analyzes the history of a Portuguese cleric who, for the last third part of the XVII century, became the most important miner in the region of Guadalajara. This research hypothesizes that his economic success was channeled towards the establishment of social relations with influential figures and towards investment in philanthropic work, all this in order to protect his family and himself of the stigmatization of Portuguese-Jew.

Keywords : portuguese; jew; miner; Inquisition; family ties.
