This paper has the purpose of discussing the imaginary quality of the future. The dominant, residual, and emerging imaginaries of the future are analyzed as internalized control devices, as well as their functions. This configuration reflects, in the light of new ways of understanding, the impact that the future has on the present and the past. It provides reflective elements to deepen the understanding of the scope of the imaginary/device in our lives. And the coexistence of various imaginaries of the future that shape not only our future but also our present and the configuration of the past. Its relevance lies in the need to think about the future from sociocultural categories that allow us to understand its relationship with the present.
