Abstract

GRAVANTE, Tommaso. Prefigurative grassroots activism and alternative futures. A proposal for analysis. Andamios [online]. 2023, vol.20, n.51, pp.133-166.  Epub Sep 29, 2023. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v20i51.972.

In social movements studies, there is an important gap in research on the social movements and the construction of alternative futures. This article presents a proposal for analysis using the prefigurative politics approach and the emotional dimension of grassroots activism as an explanatory variable. The analysis of the emotional dimension allows us to distinguish, and therefore understand its impacts, between strategic practices and prefigurative practices. This means that in prefigurative activism, political practices such as self-management, do-it-yourself, self-training, veganism, among others, are directly linked, through a series of emotions, to alternative futures characterized by anti-capitalism, shared knowledge, direct democracy, anti-speciesism, anti-patriarchy, among others.

Keywords : Grassroots activism; prefigurative politics; emotions and protest; social movements; alternative future.
