Abstract

This article identifies the scope of the principle of protection of the environment, the biosphere and biodiversity, included in the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights; with the purpose of exploring the way in which the judge can guide its legal interpretation to resize the scope of the interconnection between human beings and other forms of life. The importance of appropriate access to biological and genetic resources and their use, as well as respect for traditional knowledge and the duties that human beings must also be assumed. In this context, interdisciplinary dialogue on respect for the environment, international collaboration and philosophical reflection acquire particular relevance in order to assume efforts aimed at adequately complying with the duties and obligations of the State and of individuals towards their environment and other life forms.
