This article carries out the analysis of the bullfighting vocabulary used in Peninsular Spanish through its presence in the work Gatherings from Spain, published in 1846. The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to determine which linguistic mechanisms of translation are used by the author to transfer from Spanish to English such a tremendously rooted in the Spanish cultural heritage lexical field as bullfighting is; on the other, to establish the relationship between the type of original vocabulary and the mechanism used, depending on whether it is a terminological element or whether it consists of general vocabulary and/or non-specific popular expressions which refer to the bull as a cultural reference. In many cases, the incorporation of these elements into the target language through integrated borrowings or xenisms is observed, given the impossibility of achieving an equivalent translation.
