Abstract

SOLEDAD SANCHEZ, María. When Investments Become Popular. Digital Finance and Amateur Investors in Argentina. Estud. sociol [online]. 2024, vol.42, e2531.  Epub May 24, 2024. ISSN 2448-6442.  https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2024v42.e2531.

In a complex economic context, characterized by high inflation rates and the implementation of strict exchange market regulations, financial investments in instruments such as bonds, shares, mutual funds, and cryptocurrencies have grown exponentially since 2020 in Argentina. Using a quantitative-qualitative strategy, this paper analyzes the expansion of digital financial platforms and the increasing incorporation of amateur investors into the market: individuals with neither formal financial knowledge nor higher incomes. This article analyzes the popularization of financial investments as a result of the interaction between the economic context, changes in financial organizations, and the circulation of instruments, knowledge, and ideas that familiarize the non-expert public with the market and its instruments.

Keywords : amateur investors; digital financial platforms; low-finance; popularization; Argentina.
