Abstract
BERNAL VALDÉS, Leyani and PEREZ PINON, Francisco Alberto. Historical awareness and the teaching-learning process of history. A necessary review. Debates hist. [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.1, pp.85-113. Epub Mar 27, 2023. ISSN 2594-2956. https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v11i1.1044.
In recent years, studies on the formation of historical awareness have shown that the traditional and reproductive forms of teaching History prevail in schools. They demonstrate a preference for proposals focused on personalities and governments along with storytelling professors, with low possibilities of establishing creative relationships between individuals and society, and with fragile tools for them to intervene in their reality. The purpose of this article is to analyze the nodal elements that structure the concept, its binding ties with narrative and the Didactics of History, as well as the tools it provides and its guiding function of individuals in society. To this end, a bibliographic review was carried out from which problems were detected around the teaching-learning process of History, and possible alternatives are offered to develop reflection skills and practices that promote critical thinking. This way, individuals will be able to recognize themselves as temporary beings and be aware that it is necessary to know the past to understand the present and build the future.
