Abstract

Menopause is a retrospective diagnosis given by the end of menstrual periods for 12 months, it´s consenquence by lack stimulus of Follicle stimulanting hormone and Luteinizing hormone and ovarian follicles atresia which leads to the inability to produce estrogens. Climateric syndrome is the set of signs and symptoms that occur in this transition, among the most important characteristic are hot flashes, emotional lability, osteoporosis, increased cardiovascular risk and genitourinary disorders.
The decrease in the estrogen production produces this symptomatology therefore the treatment is hormonal replacement with exogenous estrogens and progestogens, always considering the patient's symptomatology and the risk-benefit, looking for improving their quality of life. It´s important to remember to make an evaluation of current lifestyle to make changes for the benefit patient.
