Abstract

CHE-MORALES, José Luis; FIGUEROA-HURTADO, Esperanza  and  CORTES-TELLES, Arturo. Anatomical variations of the tracheobronchial tree in two bronchoscopy reference centers of Yucatán, México. Neumol. cir. torax [online]. 2016, vol.75, n.1, pp.12-17. ISSN 0028-3746.

Variations in the tracheobronchial tree are commonly identified during bronchoscopy. Several studies have showed that bronchial ramification is a process programmed and genetically controlled; any disruption in the intrauterine development can generate a wide spectrum of bronchial variations. According with the best evidence available, bronchial modifications are different in type and frequency among geographic areas, races and between members of the same ethnicity. There is scarce information about the topic in our country; based on this context, the main purpose is to communicate the frequencies of bronchial variations in a group of patients who were referred to a bronchoscopic study in the southeast of Mexico. The authors consider that the findings enhance the discussion related with genetics in bronchial variations.

Keywords : Variations; tracheobronchial; Mexico; right isomerism; left isomerism.
