Abstract
VAZQUEZ-MINERO, Juan Carlos et al. The simulation with a biological model, as a tool in the process of teaching of the residence of thoracic surgery in Mexico. Neumol. cir. torax [online]. 2019, vol.78, n.1, pp.20-24. Epub Nov 09, 2020. ISSN 0028-3746.
Introduction:
The simulation is currently a great teaching tool to improve the teaching and learning process in medicine, there are many models that can be used as a simulator. One of them is the biological model which can be with live or dead animals.
Material and methods:
For the process of teaching in surgery the greatest use is in live models, to try to recreate reality as best as possible. Simulation scenarios were made with Landrace race pigs of 20-22 kgs with a total of 84 divided into two groups. The first one was the procurement of the heart lung block and in the second lung transplant was performed on the left side.
Results:
The practice was carried out following the steps previously standardized and the goal was to bring the transplant to life and without accidents, which is achievement in all cases.
Conclusion:
The recreating a scenario as real as possible helps the resident to become accustomed, as in this case, to the anatomical structures and their proper surgical management, putting into practice the different techniques for the management of the blood vessels, the left atrium and the bronchus. The evaluation at the end of the practices with a questionnaire, how the practice was useful to them, is a way to observe if the learning objectives were fulfilled or not. Simulation is an indispensable tool in the learning process of surgery in our time.
