Abstract

The history of the Hospital de la Caridad para Niños de Puebla is presented, one of the institutions that is an essential part of Mexican pediatrics. It was the first children’s hospital in the Mexican province, founded by Dr. Samuel Morales Pereyra and Mr. Miguel Vargas on August 5, 1877 in the city of Puebla, Mexico. This hospital had 30 beds for hospitalization and a surgery room. It was a reference center for abused children. Although it was not a training center, it had medical and nursing students. In addition, theses and clinical sessions were carried out to discuss the health problems of hospitalized children. In 1917 the hospital concluded its activities, when it was incorporated into the Jesús Carranza Civil Hospital.
