Abstract

CARPIZO, Jorge. Derecho constitucional latinoamericano y comparado. Bol. Mex. Der. Comp. [online]. 2005, vol.38, n.114, pp.949-989. ISSN 2448-4873.

The comparison of constitutional institutions helps to identify the similarities and differences that exist among them, at the level of formal norms, of case law and of political practices and customs, with the fundamental purpose of testing which elements may help to strengthen a given constitutional system. In this article, the author ilustrates the sosial and political scenarios which gave shape to contemporary constitutional law in Latin American countries. In his conclusions, he highlights the relevance of comparative studies as a way to improve our constitutional systems, within the framework of democracy and with the aim of constructing conditions of governability, and thus contribute to achieve integration and cohesion in the region.

Keywords : constitutional law; comparative law; political institutions.
