In this text, we analyze the situation of Mexico's international trade relations in face of negotiations for the modernization of the North American Free Trade Agreement. The powers of the American Executive Branch are studied in terms of international commercial negotiations and the options of action against their use. The NAFTA modernization process and its main aspects are considered: the objectives of the countries that are Party to the Treaty and the implications of the proposed changes.
