NASCIMENTO, Germana Aguiar Ribeiro do. The Human Right to Water in Spain: Recognition and Economic Accessibility as Key Elements for its Effectivity. Bol. Mex. Der. Comp. [online]. 2019, vol.52, n.156, pp.1671-1691.  Epub Mar 23, 2021. ISSN 2448-4873.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.24484873e.2019.156.15166.

The right to water has been recognized as a human right in several international treaties, declarations and other instruments. The affordability of this right, namely its economic accessibility, is one of the main factors that influence the access to water and that may jeopardize the dignity of citizens. Thus, this article aims to analyze the recognition of the human right to water and its effectiveness in the Spanish reality. To that end, the legality of the water cut-offs due to no payment will be studied. It was found that the human right to water cannot depend on the purchasing power of the people, since it is a fundamental resource for life.

Keywords : right to water; recognition; economic accessibility; Spain.
