Abstract

ANZOLA RODRIGUEZ, Sergio Iván  and  MARTIN DEL CAMPO NUNEZ, Julieta. Contributions to the discussion regarding the regulation of lawyers. Bol. Mex. Der. Comp. [online]. 2021, vol.54, n.160, pp.3-33.  Epub Mar 07, 2022. ISSN 2448-4873.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.24484873e.2021.160.15969.

The proposal to establish mandatory membership for mexican lawyers seems to enjoy consensus in the legal profession. Although we agree on the social relevance of the practice of law, and, therefore, on the need for its regulation, we consider necessary to bring into the mexican context questions and warnings that have already arisen elsewhere about the desirability of regulation (as a project in itself), the goals it pursues and the best way to achieve those goals.

In accordance with the above, this article, rather than being an original contribution, seeks to bring basic inputs to the mexican context for a richer and more complex discussion on the regulation of the legal profession.

Keywords : legal ethics and professional responsibility; lawyers; bar membership; bar association.
