2020 was the twentieth anniversary of the Palermo Protocol against trafficking in human beings. Since its approval, and especially in the last ten years, many countries have criminalized this phenomenon or have reformed its regulation in this area. Among them are the States whose laws constitute the object of the first part of this work: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and Uruguay. However, despite the fact that all of them have signed and ratified this international normative instrument, the purported legislative harmonization has not been achieved. On the contrary, up to four different political-criminal trends with important impacts on the determination of the protected legal right and the second part of this work is dedicated to them.
