Abstract

MARTINEZ CORONEL, Matías; CUPUL MAGANA, Fabio Germán  and  NIETO TOSCANO, Luis Francisco. Attacks of giant centiped Scolopendra sumichrasti Saussure, 1860 (Scolopendromorpha: Scolopendridae) over bat Natalus mexicanus Miller, 1902 (Chiroptera: Natalidae) in Chiapas, Mexico. Acta Zool. Mex [online]. 2019, vol.35, e3502069.  Epub Nov 29, 2019. ISSN 2448-8445.  https://doi.org/10.21829/azm.2019.3502069.

We report a several cases of bat attack (Natalus mexicanus) by a giant centipede (Scolopendra sumichrasti). The event took place in the cave of "Los Laguitos", Chiapas State, Mexico. This finding represents the fourth giant centipede species know to attack on bats. In Chiapas, centipede attacks on bats occurred at dusk close the exit of cave, during the emergence flight from diurnal roosts, while in previous records it is reported that the attacks were at the perch sites.
