Abstract

JOHANSSON K., Patrick. The image of the Huastec in the mirror of prehispanic Nahua culture. Estud. cult. náhuatl [online]. 2012, vol.44, pp.65-133. ISSN 0071-1675.

The Huastec culture was probably one of the most important in Mesoamerica. Unfortunately, quite few are the historical sources that permit to know it and shed some light on its archaeological vestiges. Nevertheless, we find an image of the Huastecs and more generally of their culture reflected and refracted in the mirror of Nahuatl culture. We consider, in this article, some emblematic aspects of the Huastec culture, from a nahuatl point of view, as well as the influence it had on prehispanic Nahuatl culture.

Keywords : Image; Huastecs; Nahuas; Toltecs; mirror; emblem; customs; Quetzalcoatl; bat.
