Abstract

ROVIRA MORGADO, Rossend. From a brave quauhpilli to an insulted quauhtlahtoani among the Tenochcah: historical radiography on don Andrés de Tapia Motelchiuhtzin. Estud. cult. náhuatl [online]. 2013, vol.45, pp.157-195. ISSN 0071-1675.

This paper contributes with both historical analysis and historiographical progress on one of the most complex actors within the Conquest and the consolidation of the first Castilian-controlled native governments at Mexico-Tenochtitlan: Motelchiuhtzin. Conductist and tendentious stereotypes present in the main sources routinely used to understand his historical meaning will be contrasted by using independent data and a substantial number of archive sources.

Keywords : Mexico-Tenochtitlan; source heuristic; Prehispanic social strata; meritocracy; quauhtlahtocayotl.
