Abstract

SALAMA, Pierre. China-Brazil: An Instructive Comparison.Translated byHugo López Araiza Bravo,  Ana Inés Fernández Ayala. Foro int [online]. 2015, vol.55, n.2, pp.595-624. ISSN 0185-013X.

In this paper Brazil and China's growth trajectories within the last decades are compared. Analogies and differences between the two ascending countries are outlined in order to draw conclusions about divergences of their development models. The outstanding features are demography, inequality, the investment rate, monetary policies, internationalization, the balance of national accounts, investment in infrastructure, urbanization and violence rates. Finally, the causes of manifest economic slowdown are considered. The question arises: is the domestic market capable enough to boost growth?

Keywords : emerging countries; deindustrialization; economic growth; monetary policy; diverging paths.
