Abstract

ROJO FIERRO, Ana Gabriela. The war on drugs in Mexico: an unrecognized non-international armed conflict?. Foro int [online]. 2020, vol.60, n.4, pp.1415-1462.  Epub Feb 12, 2021. ISSN 0185-013X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/fi.v60i4.2628.

This paper reflects on the legal classification of the “war on drugs” in Mexico from the perspective of international humanitarian law, which regulates international and non-international armed conflicts. Following an overview of different aspects of this conflict, I discuss the legal feasibility of acknowledging the ongoing violence in Mexico as a “non-international armed conflict” (CANI in Spanish), and demanding the corresponding measures of International Humanitarian Law.

Keywords : international humanitarian law; non-international armed conflict; war on drugs; organized crime; Mexico.
