Abstract

CORDOVA PLAZA, Rosío. Sexual identities and pratices among sex workers in the cities of Xalapa and Veracruz. Nueva antropol [online]. 2008, vol.21, n.69, pp.83-103. ISSN 0185-0636.

This article offers an anthropological approach to some crucial aspects of male sex work, mainly the relationship between sexual practices and sexual identities in the two most important cities of the state of Veracruz: the capital city of Xalapa and the city and port of Veracruz. It discusses self-definition of different types of sex workers and the cultural features that support homosexual practices related to gender, the body, desire and sexuality. Also, from a comparative perspective, it analyses the different types of sex workers, their identity in relation to conventions over the human body, and the sexual hierarchies that arise from sexual practices.

Keywords : sexual identity; sexual services; human body; homo-eroticism.
