Abstract

DESMET, Ellen. El impacto de procesos transnacionales en la organización de los airo pai (secoya) de la Amazonia peruana. Nueva antropol [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.71, pp.151-175. ISSN 0185-0636.

The organization of the Airo Pai (Secoya) of the Peruvian Amazon is influenced by local and global transnational processes. Global transnational processes reflect the intensification of globalization. Conservation and indigenous rights projects have affected in various ways the Airo Pai organization at the communal and intercommunal levels, as well as their relationship with the local government. Moreover, an oil concession brought new interests along. The Airo Pai creatively manage this multiplicity of interactions. On their route towards a representative indigenous organization and effective political participation, they use the tools of the western legal system when this seems useful.

Keywords : transnational processes; indigenous peoples; Peruvian Amazon; Airo Pai (Secoya).
