Abstract

HIRAI, Shinji. La nostalgia: Emociones y significados en la migración trasnacional. Nueva antropol [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.81, pp.77-94. ISSN 0185-0636.

This article explores the emotional dimension of transnational migration in particular the visits of Mexican and Mexican-American migrants during vacation periods by examining the emotions that the migrants experiment in this process, such as nostalgia. Through the description and analysis of an ethnographic case in a community in northeastern Mexico, transnational migration is discussed not merely as a physical displacement, but also a "displacement" of emotions and meanings from which new spatial practices emerge transforming social reality. Therefore, nostalgia is not only an emotion that evokes the place of origin, but also contributes to the construction of a group of attitudes related to sociocultural and mobility practices.

Keywords : return; nostalgia; displacement of emotions; transnational migration.
