Abstract
OSORIO FRANCO, Lorena. El sistema de cargos en Jurica: entre la fuerza de la tradición y el proceso de urbanización. Nueva antropol [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.81, pp.229-233. ISSN 0185-0636.
This ethnographic research takes place in a community north of the capital of Queretaro, Mexico. In the 1960s the social life and spatial ordering of this town started to noticeably change. Urbanization created the feeling that the community was being diluted, leading to another peripheral colony in the big city. Changes implied the physical and functional integration of the city, which caused the disappearance of its geographical borders. Furthermore, immigration led to the rise of different cultural schemes that coexisted in the same space, some shared and some of their own. Despite these changes, inhabitants preserved important traditions and a local identity that is reflected in their religious life. From this point of view, the author notes how local identity is constructed and reconstructed between traditional authority (cargo or office system) and ecclesiastical authority (priests).
Keywords : urbanization; cost system; identity; popular religiosity.
