Abstract

ARTEAGA BOTELLO, Nelson  and  ARZUAGA MAGNONI, Javier. Iconología de un precandidato presidencial: El último informe de Peña Nieto como gobernador. Nueva antropol [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.84, pp.117-141. ISSN 0185-0636.

Enrique Peña Nieto's final State of the State Address as Governor of the State of Mexico is analyzed, specifically his political message. It was a performance which projected narratives and codes that managed to produce a communion in which the governor was transformed into a political icon among his fellow party members, supporters and allies. The authors examine the way in which this display of material and symbolic power was deciphered by the media, defining a symbolic battlefield around them, which survived when he became the candidate of his party for the presidency and which continues to distinguish some debates on his performance as President of the Republic.

Keywords : performance; iconic conscience; political communion; the media.
