Abstract

BOJORQUEZ MORA, Edén; CHAVEZ LOPEZ, Robespierre; RUIZ GOMEZ, Sonia E.  and  REYES SALAZAR, Alfredo. A ground motion intensity measure to predict nonlinear behavior and higher mode effects. Ing. sísm [online]. 2014, n.90, pp.1-33. ISSN 0185-092X.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the Bojórquez ground motion intensity measure in order to improve its efficiency to predict both the nonlinear behavior and the higher modes effects of structures subjected to earthquakes of different characteristics. The intensity measure is generally based on a proxy of the spectral shape named Np. Although the most commonly spectral shape used is in term of the spectral acceleration, in this paper with the aim to improve the efficiency of the intensity measure, other parameters such as velocity and displacement are selected. The efficiency of the intensity measure here presented is computed by means of several steel buildings subjected to ground motions recorded in soils with different characteristics. It is concluded that the parameter presented here in shows good relation with the structural response of buildings as compared with ground other motion intensity measures commonly used.

Keywords : intensity measure; spectral shape; efficiency; seismic response; steel frames.
