Abstract

HERNANDEZ BARRIOS, Hugo; HUERGO RIOS, Iván F.  and  ARCE LEON, Carlos. Ambiental vibration tests of a building during its structural strengthening. Ing. sísm [online]. 2021, n.105, pp.84-101.  Epub Oct 04, 2021. ISSN 0185-092X.  https://doi.org/10.18867/ris.105.506.

This paper shows the results related to three ambiental vibration tests carried out in a building located in the transition zone of Mexico City during three different stages of its structural strengthening. The first and second tests were carried out on November 5, 2016 and June 24, 2017, respectively. On the other hand, the third ambiental vibration test was carried out on September 28, 2017, that is, a few days after the earthquakes of September 7 and September 19, 2017. Three numerical models of the building were developed in order to compute the periods and mode shapes related to each one of the ambiental vibration tests carried out during the structural strengthening. Signal processing revealed that the periods of vibration are similar to those computed analytically through the numerical models, on the other hand, the average structural damping ratio is approximately equal to 6 %. It is concluded that the seismic events of September, 2017 perhaps caused a slight degradation in the lateral stiffness of the building during its structural strengthening.

Keywords : Ambiental vibration test; Mexico City earthquakes of September, 2017; structural damping.
