Abstract

RUIZ GOMAR, Rogelio. Nuevas noticias sobre los Ramírez, artistas novohispanos del siglo XVII. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2000, vol.22, n.77, pp.67-123. ISSN 0185-1276.

Following a study made by Efraín Castro, Rogelio Ruiz Gomar offers fresh biographical news on the descendants of Sevillian master sculptor Diego Ramírez. The confusion surrounding architect, sculptor and carver Pedro Ramírez and his artist son of the same name (both of whom died just a few months apart in 1679), is finally resolved. Moreover, he also clarifies the kinship ties with assembler and sculptor Laureano Ramírez and minter José Ramírez. Although this news actually validates or completes the data obtained from other sources by Castro Morales, it also helps fill in some of the gaps in these artists' biographies, shedding light upon relations within the Ramírez family and its ties with varying members of the contemporary society of New Spain.
