This article is a reflection on an Indo-Portuguese pulpit and the French engraving that served as a source of inspiration for the ornamentation of its base. The author ponders upon similar issues that arise from the study of baroque art in New Spain and Portuguese India. With this aim in mind, he analyzes the iconography of this piece of ecclesiastical furniture from India, with reference to texts by distinguished specialists in the field of Mexican colonial art.
