Abstract

ESTRADA CASTRO, Luis Jaime. Horror writing on the bodies: ontological violence and cruelty symbolism. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2016, n.37, pp.57-80. ISSN 0185-1616.

The contemporary homicidal violence pushed to its extreme, no longer has the true need of taking life, rather it focuses on the destruction of the marked body by symbolism of cruelty as a way of attacking against dignity and human condition which is conceptualized in this article as ontological violence. For this violence and the symbolism of cruelty about the body of the victims, death is not enough as the horror seeks to transcend death by extending the dehumanization, which is analyzed through the Goya's play Saturno devorando un hijo.

Keywords : Ontological violence; biopolitics; sovereignty; symbolism of cruelty.
