Abstract

CISNEROS YESCAS, Gerardo Isaac. Electoral governance and the vote null schooled?: The effect of partial coalition and the ballot in the federal election of 2012 in Mexico. Estud. polít. (Méx.) [online]. 2016, n.37, pp.143-165. ISSN 0185-1616.

During the 2012 diputies federal election in Mexico, the combination of two factor cause the raising of null voting at the state level: i) the changes in the structure of the electoral ballot and ii) the partial coalition between the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) and the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI). This article shows that in the states where the partial coalition does not have presence, the null votes increase, meanwhile in the states where the coalition does occurs the levels of null voting decrease. Moreover, in the states where the partial coalition does not have presence, the relationship between the null voting and the schooling is positive, contradicting to the prior research.

Keywords : electoral governance; null vote; electoral ballot; partial coalition; schooling.
