Abstract

BONFIGLIOLI, Carlo. El yúmari, clave de acceso a la cosmología rarámuri. Cuicuilco [online]. 2008, vol.15, n.42, pp.45-60. ISSN 0185-1659.

What is the relationship between the gestural and sonorous codes of dance and the verbal narratives that refer to the times of the creation? Once again, this question is the cornerstone of our inquiry into rituality and "implied mythology" in Raramuri culture. The peculiarity of the yúmari-sacrifice-offering complex is that it offers a powerful synthesis of cosmological notions that concern the relationships of human beings with the celestial world. In renewing their reciprocity with the creator deity through the "vital language of the beginnings" -centered on the code of the nourishment and on the metaphor of the path- the Raramuri avert the death of the Sun, making the regeneration of cosmic life possible. For this reason, they consider themselves the pillars of the sky.

Keywords : Tarahumara (Raramuri); dance; cosmology; myth; ritual.
