Abstract

OLMOS AGUILERA, Miguel. Alteridad, etnografía y estereotipos de lo fantástico en la frontera México-Estados Unidos. Cuicuilco [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.50, pp.207-227. ISSN 0185-1659.

The northern border has become one of the few societies with a greater number of representations of otherness due to its diverse cultural composition. In this sense, this article reflects the relevance of studying otherness as a fantastic dimension of representation, as well as a phenomenon of recognition trough the representation of the other as if it was a set of mirrors. By analyzing some of the components of the cultural and historical imagery of the border region, and in particular, of the city of Tijuana, this article attempts to explain the fantastic phenomena as an ethnographic component of interpretation.

Keywords : otherness; fantastic imagery; borderline; ethnography.
