Abstract

LISBONA GUILLEN, Miguel. El espejo nacional para leer lo local: El antichinismo en el Chiapas posrevolucionario. Cuicuilco [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.59, pp.171-192. ISSN 0185-1659.

One of the most striking aspects of Chiapas' contemporary history, is its singularity with respect to other states of the country. The creation of the Mexican Republic in the eañy 19th century and the composition of its population, characterized by ethnic diversity, have led to historic studies' having observed this diversity more than the increasing similarities. This article stresses the latter, with respect to the anti-Chinese movement and the persecution the Asian population experienced after the Revolution, while also showing some differences related to the different ways institutional policies were applied to Chinese immigrants.

Keywords : the Chinese people; xenophobia; nation; racial mixing; Chiapas.
