Abstract

DE LA VEGA, Hans Martz  and  PEREZ NEGRETE, Miguel. Tehuacalco como lugar de la memoria. Arqueoastronomía y paisaje. Región Centro de Guerrero. Cuicuilco [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.61, pp.303-331. ISSN 0185-1659.

The article refers to the first results of a case study on archaeoastronomy in the archaeological zone of Tehuacalco. The aim was to understand the meaning or significance of the alignments and the axes of symmetry of the site regarding positional astronomy and the ritual landscape. It is argued that the alignments of the structures were dedicated to certain fully identified days of calendrical families in Mesoamerica, related to the solstices and the seasonal equinoxes. The connecting thread of the analysis consists of the agricultural ritual cycle, along with the articulation of this social practice in sacred spaces. The site was the junction between the present and the future, where they managed to set up a tangible memory via a context formed by certain constituents of positional astronomy, the local horizon and the structures of the settlement, thus maintaining the sacred memory of a people.

Keywords : Tehuacalco; Guerrero; archaeoastronomy; landscape and memory.
