Abstract

ALVARADO LEON, Claudia I.. El espacio construido y los procesos de cambio en la Acrópolis de Xochicalco. Cuicuilco [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.63, pp.171-205. ISSN 0185-1659.

Over the 500-year history of Xochicalco, the Acropolis has been both a witness and a protagonist of the political, economic, social and ideological developments. This architectural complex was a faithful representation of the transformations resulting from social processes which, in turn, had an influence of the ensuing archaeological environment. Following on from the work of Milton Santos [1986], space is considered a social phenomenon and, therefore, human behavior determines the organization of constructed spaces; this, as a result, influences human behavior [Lawrence and Low 1990: 454]. In light of this, this paper explains how certain social processes in Xochicalco influenced the transformation of the architectural complex known as the Acropolis.

Keywords : constructed environment; social processes; value system; Xochicalco; Epiclassic period.
