Abstract
RUESGA, Santos M. and MURAYAMA, Ciro. Education and the unemployment queue: the Spanish case. Inv. Econ [online]. 2002, vol.62, n.239, pp.161-179. ISSN 0185-1667.
The goal of this paper is to show the incidence of the educational factor upon the employment/unemployment dynamic in the Spanish labour market, covering the end of the eighties and the nineties. Three different empirical analysis approaches are used: 1) a macroeconomic perspective, calculating the educational mismatch between labour supply and demand; 2) a micro-economic logit type analysis, to discover how normal education determines the probabilities of whether or not an individual will find employment; and 3) an indirect subjective method, estimating the degree of infra and over education in the Spanish labour market. The general conclusion points to the fact that education has more influence in the probabilities of unemployment for each economically active individual, whilst its role in correcting the rate of aggregated unemployment is limited.
