Abstract

RODRIGUEZ CASTILLO, Luis. Etnicidad y ciudadanía en los "márgenes del conflicto". La lucha por la territorialidad en la selva-fronteriza de Chiapas, México. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2005, vol.47, n.195, pp.163-194. ISSN 0185-1918.

In this article, the author documents the ethnographic transformations that have appeared in the local and regional spaces of the Lacandon jungle, where the Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (EZLN) has defended the discourse for the recognition of the natives' rights and autonomy. This discourse has had important impacts in the national political agenda. The central argument of this paper is that the impulse given to the discourses about ethnicity and citizenship has played an important role in the re-definition of the position of the local political forces in the municipal and regional context. The official territorial re-organization, through the remunicipalization, and the non-official, through autonomy, are good signs of the importance of territoriality as a space of encounter between the local actors and the agencies of the State. This space, in the frontier of Lacandon jungle, highlights the importance of local governments to impel the socio-political agreements, as well as the political participation and the democratic principles in everyday life.

Keywords : Chiapas; conflicto; territorialidad; Estado; etnicidad; ciudadanía.
