Abstract

BRAVO, Jorge. Medios de comunicación en México: entre el autoritarismo de Estado y el autoritarismo de mercado. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2008, vol.50, n.204, pp.57-75. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2008.204.41986.

Based on the authoritarian theory of the press by Fred S. Siebert, the article analyzes the performance realized by the communication mass media in authoritarian regimes. The theoretical model is applied to the system in the Mexican media where the media institutions have kept a close symbiotic relationship with the public power and have been a loyal reflection of the structures of authoritarian power in function. Also, it analyzes the impact of the free market on the unemployment of the communication media and how it endangers the freedom of speech, whereby it is assimilated to an authoritarianism of a traditional type.

Keywords : autoritarismo; medios de comunicación; teoría autoritaria de la prensa; libre mercado.
